Position Overview
The Paralegal or Legal Assistant will serve as a key member of Pemberton Law Firm’s Family Law team in the Alexandria office. This role provides the opportunity to support an assigned attorney by assisting with a variety of family law matters. Core responsibilities include drafting pleadings and related documents, filing court materials, scheduling hearings and mediations, communicating with clients and external parties, processing emails and court filings, and performing other family‑law‑related tasks as needed.
Position Information
Location: Alexandria, Minnesota
In‑office/Remote: In‑office preferred. Remote work may be available for candidates with prior Paralegal or Legal Assistant experience.
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (37.5 hours per week).
Hourly Wage: $20–$26 per hour.
Position Status: Permanent, full‑time, non‑supervisory.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods; ability to lift/move file boxes as needed.

Essential Responsibilities
- Draft pleadings and documents related to family law matters.
- File court documents and schedule hearings, motions, and mediations.
- Calendaring and monitoring timelines and deadlines.
- Communicate with opposing attorneys and their staff, outside entities, and other relevant parties.
- Prepare and compose correspondence to attorneys, courts, and other stakeholders.
- Communicate with clients about their matters, assist potential clients, and initiate new case files.
- Process and respond to all emails and court filings in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties and assignments as required.
- Provide receptionist backup as needed.
Qualifications
- Paralegal degree or certificate preferred but not required; candidates with relevant experience or education are encouraged to apply.
- Minimum of two years of general office experience.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and solve problems independently.]
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to adjust to changing needs.
